In-Ground Swimming Pools
How do I choose what type to build?
For a low cost alternative to traditional inground pools also see sunken "above ground" pools which many of our customers sink in the ground at a fraction of the cost.
BLOCK AND LINER POOLS
A very popular way to build traditional inground pools. Liners should last at least 10 years and are straightforward and economical to replace, making the pool look like new again. Liner pools require less DIY skills than concrete shells.
PANEL AND LINER POOLS.
Labour saving quicker alternatives to blocks. Plastering and brick laying skills not needed for the ready made walls. Potentially cheaper than blocks because of reduced labour costs. Our modern polymer panels already have such good insulating properties that we do not think it is worth paying twice as much for bulky double skinned insulated wall sections, especially since walls only account for a small proportion of total heat losses from pools anyway.
We can also supply panels made of fibreglass or galvanised steel if you prefer. These typically cost about 10% more than modern structural polymer panels which have largely superseded them.
Panels are perfect for rectangular pools, but they are also very advantageous if you want to create a curved pool. We can design many shapes and sizes. Kidney, teardrop, pear, L-shaped, oval, circle etc. Please phone 0208 941 6618 and ask us to quote you.
CONCRETE POOLS.
Solid concrete steel reinforced shells make the ultimate pools. Using qualified experts can result in the finished project costing twice as much as other swimming pools, but without the necessary skills they can go badly wrong. Properly constructed concrete pools are well worth the effort and expense if you can afford them.
ONE PIECE FIBREGLASS POOLS
Glassfibre pools are ideal if you want an elaborate curved shape with built in steps for example. But most people prefer swimming in a more or less straight sided pool, for which we think other methods are preferable and much less costly. Please phone us for details and prices of pool shells available.
Popular in countries where they are less expensive due to mass production, but any pool worth having is not a cheap option in Great Britain. Straightforward in theory - lower the shell into a prepared hole and backfill. But (contrary to what some unscrupulous dealers may tell you if they sell nothing but grp shells), there is plenty to go wrong in practice. It is certainly not a simple matter of digging a hole one day and dropping the pool in the next.
There is a lot more skillful preparation needed than most people realise, and most pools are not particularly deep. Transporter access may cause problems, and craning over a house is expensive and risky. In the past glassfibre pool surfaces have suffered crazing and become dull with time. They were notorious for water penetration due to osmosis. New finishes claim to have overcome most of these problems. Once the surface is marked, bleached or faded however, there is not much you can do about it.
Over the past few years at least three companies, specialising exclusively in fibreglass pools, have collapsed or disappeared leaving their customers to sort out the mess. That is why we only deal with trusted and well established suppliers, no matter how "too good to be true" pools from other sources may appear.
